. Venous Air Embolism During Operative

چکیده
C6mplications of hysteroscopy occur more frequently in operative than in diagnostic cases. Problems related to‘uterine distension are common, usually preventable, and potentially extremely serious. Perforation of the LFXIS may occur during hysteroscopy but do not always cause significant problems. In procedures of high risk i,r perforation the use of mechanical energy is safer than either laser or electrical energy. Laparoscopy and ulrrasonography have some limited use in facilitating operative hysteroscopic procedures. Most complications occur during the hysteroscopic surgical procedure. However some problems may not be apparent until the post oper-

Air embolism during operative hysteroscopy: TEE-guided resuscitation.
During hysteroscopic surgery there are concerns about potential complications such as venous air and gas embolism. The incidence of subclinical air emboli events during operative hysteroscopy is significantly underestimated. The manifestations of this complication may range from an unnoticeable decrease in P(ET)CO(2) to the need for resuscitation. Three cases of air embolism with variable outco...
متن کاملVenous air embolism during air/fluid exchange: a potentially fatal complication.
Intraoperative venous air embolism (VAE) has been described in a number of surgical specialties. It occurs if air is drawn into open veins when the operative field is above the level of the heart, a situation traditionally associated with neurosurgical procedures performed with the patient in the sitting position. Venous air embolism can also occur when air is forced into the venous system unde...
متن کاملVenous air embolism during anesthesia for maxillary sinus irrigation: a case study.
In this case report, the authors describe the occurrence of venous air embolism during nasal irrigation following an adenoidectomy. A literature review is presented of surgical procedures in which venous air embolism has been documented. The means of diagnosis, the pathophysiology, and the recommended treatment of venous air embolus also are presented. The clinical signs and symptoms of air emb...
متن کاملAcute management of vascular air embolism
Vascular air embolism (VAE) is known since early nineteenth century. It is the entrainment of air or gas from operative field or other communications into the venous or arterial vasculature. Exact incidence of VAE is difficult to estimate. High risk surgeries for VAE are sitting position and posterior fossa neurosurgeries, cesarean section, laparoscopic, orthopedic, surgeries invasive procedure...
متن کاملCentral venous air embolism without a catheter.
Venous air embolism is a well-recognized complication of central venous catheterization. Although previous reports have documented venous air embolism occurring in a number of ways, including during initial catheterization, when catheters crack or are disconnected, and after catheter removal, no reports mention the possibility of air embolism occurring when a guide wire without a catheter was i...
